FAQs
Nutrition
professionals wishing to become registered with
the National Association of Nutrition Professionals
(NANP) may do so by submitting the required information
as outlined below along with the appropriate fees.
Becoming registered is the first step toward qualifying
yourself to sit for the national board exam, expected
to be available in 2006. Those who pass the board
exam will be given a professional title/designation
yet to be determined.
Nutrition professionals registered with the NANP
constitute a legal profession. They have the right
to provide educational information to their clients
about diet and nutritional support for building
and maintaining nutritional well-being. They are
not permitted to diagnose or prescribe for illness
of any kind. All practitioners registered with
the NANP must meet our standards
of education and sign a Registration Agreement
stating that they agree to perform only those
acts which are appropriate to the profession of
nutritional consulting.
The certificate of registration issued is the
property of NANP. It can be revoked for malpractice,
for performing unauthorized medical acts (at the
discretion of the Disciplinary Committee of NANP),
or when registration is allowed to lapse.
In
addition to pre-qualifying you to sit for the
national board exam (when it becomes available),
registration is intended to provide NANP members
with...
- Added
credibility by indicating to others that you
have met and continue to meet all the educational
and ethical standards required by a professional
governing organization (the NANP).
-
Assurance for the public, the insurance companies,
the medical community, and other complementary
practitioners that you are aware of and conduct
your business in accordance with your legal
scope of practice and standards of professional
conduct.
-
Documentation and validation of your educational
and professional qualifications. A certificate
suitable for framing will be issued to signify
that you are a member in good standing and have
met NANP registration requirements.
- An
organized professional body of peers that govern
the nutritional consulting profession through
the establishment of educational standards,
scope of practice, legislative advocacy, and
continuing education requirements, that will
be recognized by the public, health plans, the
government and the greater health care community
as a group of qualified, ethical and professional
holistic practitioners.
